Exposition "Contemporary Orthodox Icons from Latvia"
Wednesday, 05.04.2017 - 19:00
In Eastertide come and experience a spiritual journey through Latvian iconography. Icons commemorating the Easter story using a range of media will celebrate the fact that the Catholic and Orthodox Easters fall at the same time this year. How about discovering them for yourself?
What is an ICON?
In ancient times, the icon was called the Picturesque Gospel. Celebration icons give us the possibility to understand the Gospel texts deeper, to appreciate the nuances that may appear when reading. Different variations of the same scene show us an interpretation of sacred events, seen from different angles. Despite the fact that iconography has been quite a rigid medium since ancient times, the painter has enough freedom to express different shades of meaning and to show the beauty of the image.
Sacred Orthodox Chants by Ellina Dedysheva et Irina Lot, members of the Choir of the Parish of the Holy Epiphany, Mechelen.
Light reception with Latvian specialties.
Don’t miss this inspiring cultural and spiritual evening!!!!!
