Europe in troubled waters;Reformation and Reform in Europe today

In the year of the commemoration of 500 years of Reformation, the conference asks and will discuss which traditions/results/outcomes of the Protestant Reformation might be again of interest and a reference point today in a time of crisis in Europe and related to the European integration process. Which aspects of the Reformation can be inspiring in Europe today? The phenomena of this crisis are still manifold: the unresolved challenges of a common migration policy, increased social inequalities, Brexit, nationalism and EU-skepticism, the emergency of illiberal democracies and a much more dangerous political neighborhood (Turkey, Russia). Are there lessons to learn from the Reformation for necessary reforms in Europe today?

Keynote speaker: Mr. Jerzy Buzek, MEP and former President of the European Parliament.

Panel Discussion: Rev. Alison McDonald, Church of Scotland, CEC Governing Board Bishop Johan Bonny, Antwerp, Belgium Fr Sorin Selaru, Director, Representation of the Romanian Orthodox Church to the EU

Moderation: Rev Valentin Wendebourg, EKD

Conclusions Very Reverend Protopresbyter Heikki Theodoros Huttunen General Secretary of the Conference of European Churches
